#5 Star Wars: Thrawn

Star Wars: Thrawn
Get on Audible/Amazon

Star Wars: Thrawn
By: Timothy Zahn
Narrated by: Marc Thompson

Book 1 – Thrawn (Star Wars)
Book 2 – Thrawn: Alliances (Star Wars)
Book 3 – Thrawn: Treason

This makes #5 due to the fact that it is my favorite audio book. Meaning I would not recommend this book in paperback since you get so much from the audio version. Credit to the publisher Random House Audio. A lot of the book takes place in Thrawn’s mind and the audio transitions to that are amazing. As Thrawn is a master tactician you can really get into his mind. Timothy Zahn is the master of writing Star Wars books as well and the true reason why we have more Star Wars movies and content today due to his early works in the 90’s. It was a tough decision with this choice at #5 though since books 1 and 3 are my favorite Star Wars books where book 2 I really didn’t enjoy that much. Maybe I hyped book 2 too much in my mind after loving book 1 so much. These books are cannon and officially part of the Disney Star Wars story line. I believe this is the highest rated Star Wars book as well at 4.8/5.

#10 Star Wars

Star Wars

Star Wars Books

I decided to group my favorite Star Wars books into number 10. I did my best to list them in order of how much I enjoyed them, but if you love Star Wars I would strongly recommend these books.

Book 1 – So good it ranks higher on the list
Book 2 – Star Wars: Lost Stars
Book 3 – From a Certain Point of View
Book 4 – Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel
Book 5 – Aftermath: The Force Awakens (3 books)
Book 6 – Star Wars: Bloodline – New Republic
Book 7 – The Last Jedi Leia, Princess of Alderaan
Book 8 – Queen’s Shadow
Book 9 – Lords of the Sith
Book 10 – All of Timothy Zahn’s old work. (Not Canon)
– Star Wars: Heir to the Empire: The Thrawn Trilogy
– Star Wars: Specter of the Past: The Hand of Thrawn
– Allegiance: Star Wars Legends
– Scoundrels: Star Wars Legends

Side notes:
– From a Certain Point of View is the best book for someone who has seen Star Wars (A New Hope). It is 40 stories told by 40 authors, from the point of view of characters barely seen on screen. It is canon and really adds a lot to the first ever Star Wars movie.
– Catalyst is my favorite tie in book and really adds a bunch of story to the Rogue One movie. If you liked the movie this is a must read.
– Timothy Zahn’s old work is really really good. Without those books and the success it had we would not be living in a world of new Star Wars content. It is however no longer canon since Discney took over.

#12 The Martian

The Martian
Get on Audible/Amazon

The Martian
By: Andy Weir
Narrated by: R. C. Bray

Movie solid, book AMAZING! Seriously I enjoyed the movie even though the end with the suit hole poking was the silliest thing I have ever seen. This book is one of a handful of books that I just could not put down and listened at every available moment until done. I have the upmost respect for Andy Weir as later I learned how much work went into the science of this book and he does an extremely good job of keeping the science as true as possible. PSA there is a lot of swearing in this book, but many actual lol’s came from that.

#17 Skyward

Skyward
Get on Audible/Amazon

Skyward
By: Brandon Sanderson
Narrated by: Suzy Jackson

Book 1 – Skyward
Book 2 – Starsight

A really fun young adult novel that is great for a teen or adult. I think part of the reason I loved this so much was that it was Sanderson’s writing style in a sci-fi book. Also the protagonist is female which I have been trying to read more of lately. As of today I am halfway through the second book that was just released and there most certainly is a curve ball in this book and thoroughly enjoying it!

#19 Bobiverse

Bobiverse
Get on Audible/Amazon

Bobiverse
By: Dennis E. Taylor
Narrated by: Ray Porter
Book 1 – We Are Legion (We Are Bob)
Book 2 – For We Are Many
Book 3 – All These Worlds

This was a really fun read and really makes you think of what may be a reality far in the future. Dennis E. Taylor takes 3D printing to the next level in these books and it is fascinating. Feels kind of like you are playing a game on how to survive. There are spaceships and starts out with a dude going to a Comic-con, I mean come on now, it doesn’t get better than that. An audible original and if you like space and star ships this is a must read.

#25 Ender’s Game

Ender’s Game: Special 20th Anniversary Edition
Get on Audible/Amazon

Ender’s Game and Ender’s Shadow.
By: Orson Scott Card
Narrated by: Stefan Rudnicki, Harlan Ellison, Gabrielle de Cuir

The same story written from two different perspectives. This is the only, what I consider “classic” novel on my list. If you saw the movie I am sorry as it really did not do this book justice. This made the cut at #25 due to the unique ability to read the same story twice and still be fully engaging throughout Shadow. I would definitely read Ender’s Game first and then follow it up with Ender’s Shadow.
